History & Location
The HIAT - Hydrogen Institute of Applied Technologies - was founded in 2002 as a non-profit research institute with the focus on hydrogen and fuel cell technology.
Since that time it has continously grown and established itself by its innovative and persistent work in the emerging field of fuel cell research. Thus the HIAT extended its activities to the field of distributed energy storage technology, including application-oriented information and communication technology.
The research of HIAT is based on ecological and economic relevance in the sector of hydrogen energy technology, including accumulator technology. The pioneering research in close coordination with technical development work requires continuous cooperation with partners from research and industry. For this reason, the Institute focuses on the translation of research results into innovative products, processes and procedures. This involves that the HIAT is contributing to the education and training of professionalsin in cooperation with universities and colleges.
Innovation in the north
The HIAT is located in the Hydrogen Centre (TGZ) in Schwerin, Germany. The 5000qm² area of the
TGZ park offer a lot of space for start-up companies, especially from the field of hydrogen, for advanced research, development and marketing of the promising hydrogen technology.
The central location between the leaders of the hydrogen and fuel cell technology in Hamburg, Berlin, Brandenburg and Berlin allows quick access to the main hydrogen regions and a wide radius for the many activities of the HIAT institute.
